The Top Things To Do In Tenerife
A lot of people go to Tenerife for the beaches, but there are plenty of things to do in Tenerife besides just spending the day at the ocean. With gorgeous villages, historic sites, a volcanic landscape, museums, and gardens, you will find a variety of activities. Tenerife is the largest of the Canary Islands in Spain. To get your bearings, click here for a Tenerife map of the island. Here’s my suggestions for the things to do in Tenerife that you won’t want to miss.
The Top Things To Do In Tenerife
1. Visit Siam Park
Siam Park offers all different levels of water rides, a wave pool, a bar, and a great choice of food choices. This water park has a Thai theme throughout the park, and there’s even a sandy beach to relax on. It’s great for all ages, and you can even rent your own private cabana or villa.
2. Hike Teide National Park
Mount Teide has many trails for hiking, but if you’re not a hiker, you can take a cable car to the top of the mountain. Mount Teide is the highest mountain in Spain and the third largest volcano in the world. It has a lunar landscape, and is a spectacular way to see the views of Tenerife, especially at sunrise.
3. Escape To The Anaga Mountains
If misty forests and rocky ravines are your ideas of paradise, head to the Anaga Mountains in Northeast Tenerife. There are stunning coastal views and even ancient rainforests. It can get cold in the mountains, so make sure to bring warm clothing. This is the area of the beautiful Masca Valley hike and many other glorious walks.
4. Go Beach Hopping
You definitely won’t want to miss the gorgeous Tenerife beaches. Some of the best are Playa la Tejita, known for its kite and wind surfing, secluded Playa Benijo, and the black sand Playa Bollullo. Many of Tenerife’s beaches have restaurants and cafes, so they are great places to spend the entire day.
5. See The Dramatic Los Gigantes Cliffs
Take a boat to see these towering cliffs up close. The cliffs rise from the sea to a height of 1,640–2,625 feet. They are one of the islands main tourist attractions, and are found in the northwestern area of Tenerife. Also, make sure to take in the views from the many restaurants and bars which offer incredible vantage points of the cliffs.
obviously Tenerife is on my Bucket list so I can say I went to the Canary Islands and those beaches, I mean cmon! But to think you can wake up to the beach and hike mountains in the afternoon. I used to love that feeling in Southern California.
Though I am a bit older now so I may opt for the cable car on Mount Teide!

Yes, I get a little bored in places where there is only a beach. The great thing about Tenerife is you can be active AND have the beach…
Great write up, we’re thinking about visiting Tenerife to see Teide National Park while we are in Gran Canaria in May, do you know if it would be possible to visit for the day from there?
