When It Rains In Portland- 6 Things To Do Indoors
Nine months out of each year, it’s always raining in Portland. But Portland is such a cool, eclectic city, no one seems to mind. There’s always plenty of things to do that will allow you to stay dry. Here are six things to do indoors in Portland when it rains.
1. Browse The Aisles At Powell’s City Of Books
Powell’s City of Books is the largest independent new and used bookstore in the world. In fact, Powell’s City Of Books is so big, you won’t get through all of it in just one visit. It takes up a whole city block, and they even have maps of the bookstore so you don’t get lost.
2. Play Retro Video Games at Ground Kontrol Classic Arcade
If you have kids, take them before 5 pm, and let them play vintage video games like Asteroids, PacMan and Mario. After 5pm, Ground Kontrol is only open for ages 21 and up and becomes a nerdy adult playland. Go for game trivia nights or for the Guitar Hero karaoke. Games range between 25 and 50 cents, so it’s easy to have a great time without spending a lot of money. Hours are from noon-2:30AM daily.
3. Get Cultured At The Portland Art Museum
The Portland Art Museum is one of the country’s largest art museums and is the seventh oldest in the United States. They also offer free admission nights on the last Friday of every month from 5-8 PM. The permanent collection has more than 42,000 works of art and they usually have traveling exhibitions as well. Check out the gift shop, too, as they have a great choice of merchandise.
4. Catch A Movie At Living Room Theaters
Living Room Theaters is the ultimate urban living room, café and cinema. They have $5 movies all day, every Monday and Tuesday and a happy hour from 3-6 PM in the theater bar everyday. You can sit at tables or big, comfy chairs, and they bring the food and drinks right to your seats. You can reserve your ticket online for $1 more. They also have free live music on Friday and Saturdays from 8 pm to midnight.

Bailey’s Taproom serves up finely crafted microbrews with the upscale feeling of a wine bar and the prices of a dive bar. They have 24 Pacific NW beers on tap, so it’s a great place to get a taste of a local ale. You can also buy bottles of beer to go.
6. Warm Up With The Best Hot Chocolate Ever At Cacao
The dark drinking chocolate at Cacao is absolutely decadent. It’s thick and velvety and will be sure to satisfy your chocolate craving.
